Sweet Memories: Making Aunt Martha's Cinnamon Candy Together at Christmas
Hello There!
There’s something magical about the Christmas season that draws us back to the warmth of family traditions and the cherished memories of childhood. This year, my husband and I have been blessed with a visit from my Aunt Martha, my mom’s sister and it has been a time filled with stories and lots of laughter. We even made a trip to Gatlinburg! We had a lot of catching up to do!
I am so happy to be able to share one of her Christmas traditions with you. Every year, like clockwork, she makes her famous cinnamon candy. We decided to make it together while she was here. The spicy-sweet aroma wafts through the house, signaling that Christmas is truly here. For her, this candy isn’t just a treat; it is a labor of love, carefully prepared and shared with her family and friends.
When the candy was finally poured, cooled, and broken into perfect bite-sized pieces, we couldn’t resist sampling it immediately. Kyle joined in, and together we sat around the kitchen table, sharing memories, laughs, and the best cinnamon candy ever.
This experience has reminded me of the importance of carrying traditions forward. It’s not just about the candy or the recipes; it’s about the connections, the stories, and the love that binds us together. My Aunt Martha’s cinnamon candy is more than a holiday treat; it’s a symbol of family, of joy, and of the memories we hold dear.
As we head into Christmas, I hope this story inspires you to cherish your family traditions or even start new ones. And if you’re looking for a festive recipe to try, I’ll be sharing my Aunt Martha’s cinnamon candy recipe in the accompanying YouTube video. Trust me, it’s the best candy you’ll ever taste, and it comes with a little sprinkle of Christmas magic.
Here’s to a holiday season filled with love, laughter, and the sweet taste of cherished traditions. Merry Christmas from our family to yours!
Lord Bless You, Michelle
The Best Cinnamon Candy Ever
Ingredients
1 cup water
3¾ cups sugar
1¼ cups light corn syrup
1 tsp food-grade red food coloring
1 tsp cinnamon oil
⅓ cup confectioners sugar
Directions
Take a cookie sheet and spray generously with butter cooking spray; set aside. Combine water, sugar, corn syrup, and food coloring in a large heavy saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
Cover and cook for 3 minutes to dissolve sugar crystals. Uncover; cook on medium-high heat, without stirring, until a candy thermometer reads 300°-310° (hard crack stage). Remove from heat; stir in cinnamon oil (keep face away from the mixture as the odor is VERY strong). Immediately pour onto the prepared pan. Cool completely, about 45 minutes. Break into pieces, using the smooth side of a metal meat tenderizer. Dust the candy with powdered sugar according to your liking. Store in an airtight container. I use cinnamon oil by LorAnn Oils. I buy mine on Amazon.
