Valentine’s Day Candy: The Sweet, the Surprising, and the Skippable!

So much fun!

Hello There!

The countdown to Valentine’s Day is on! Love is in the air, and what better way to celebrate than with a candy taste test? Kyle and I had so much fun trying out a variety of Valentine’s candies, from chocolates to rice crispies, to a few surprise treats. We rated each one on a scale of 1 to 5 and shared some laughs and sweet memories along the way.

Let’s just say, candy tasting is serious business in our house…well, sort of.

Chocolate for Kyle, Candy for Me

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know Kyle’s heart belongs to chocolate. Whether it’s milk chocolate or an occasional indulgence in dark chocolate, it’s clear that chocolate is his love language! Me? I’m more of a candy connoisseur. Gummies, caramels, even those cinnamon hearts—I’m here for all of it. So, this taste test was the perfect excuse to indulge and have some fun together.

Sweet Memories of Papaw and His Cigar Box

As we opened our assortment of Valentine’s candies, I couldn’t help but think back to my Papaw and his magical stash of sweets. Papaw drove a candy truck, and every week, he’d make a stop at our house—a highlight of my childhood. He’d hand me an empty cigar box, swing open the truck door, and let me fill it up with whatever treats caught my eye.

That old cigar box felt like a treasure chest to little me, filled with candies and endless possibilities. After I made my picks, he’d grin and say, “That’s the best one in there!” Even now, every piece of candy brings back those special moments—the simple joy of feeling loved and the magic of being given the best treat in the world. It’s funny how something so simple can leave such a sweet mark on your heart.

I’ll admit, I got a little nostalgic as we tasted some of the candies that reminded me of those moments. Isn’t it amazing how food—even candy—can bring back such vivid memories?

Kyle’s Sweet Memory: The Candy Store with Mom

Kyle and his Mom

One candy box in our assortment, with its pink and white stripes, brought back a special memory for Kyle. It reminded him of a charming candy store he used to visit with his mom. She always chose divinity, her favorite treat, along with a mix of other candies for them to share. Those trips were a little tradition they both treasured and seeing that box brought a smile to Kyle’s face. It’s amazing how something as simple as candy can transport you back to cherished moments with loved ones

The Taste Test: Hits and Misses

We set up our taste test with a little scoring system. Each candy earned a score between 1 and 5, based on flavor, texture, and overall Valentine’s vibes. Let’s just say, some were love at first bite, while others…not so much.

  • Kyle’s Favorite: A decadent chocolate truffle with a soft creamy filling that practically melted in his mouth. He gave it a solid 5, with no hesitation.

  • My Surprise Winner: I have to say my favorite was the same as Kyle’s! It was so good. It not only tasted fantastic but it was also adorable! It looked like a tiny piece of cheesecake!

  • The Not-So-Sweet: There was one candy (we won’t name names) that tasted like it had been sitting in the back of a cupboard for a decade. Kyle’s face was priceless, and it scored a unanimous 1.

Making New Memories

Beyond the candy, the time spent together made this experience so special. We laughed at the ridiculous faces we made after tasting the candies, debated what deserved a 5, and reminisced about past Valentine’s Days. Moments like these remind me why I love sharing these traditions with Kyle.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be elaborate or expensive. Sometimes, all you need is a little creativity, a lot of laughter, and maybe a sugar rush to make it memorable.

Share the Love

What are your favorite Valentine’s candies? Do you have any sweet traditions or funny stories to share? Let me know in the comments—I’d love to hear them! And if you’re planning your own taste test, don’t forget to have fun with it. Life’s too short to take candy too seriously.

Wishing you a Valentine’s Day filled with sweetness and love! Until next time, happy tasting!
